Questions

What people ask, answered plainly

The questions we are actually asked here, answered plainly. If yours is not on the list, send it with your enquiry.

01

Is parking controlled in Finchley?

Across most of it, yes. N2, N3 and much of N12 are permit-controlled, the leafy roads are narrower than they look once cars are parked both sides, and there is very little off-street standing on the Victorian stock. We check your specific bays at survey and tell you whether a suspension is worth applying for.

02

Do you handle Victorian and Edwardian villas?

Most of what we do. Tall rooms, original boards, a staircase that turns, and frequently a basement or a loft conversion on top. On these the building is often more fragile than the contents, so protection goes down before anything moves.

03

Can you get a vehicle down the leafy roads?

Usually, with the right hour. The residential roads through East Finchley and around Church End are narrow once parked both sides, so we start early where the dates allow and agree the loading point at survey rather than finding one on the day.

04

Do you do mansion flats and conversions?

Regularly. The mansion blocks on the main routes have porters, goods lifts and booking sheets; the conversions have a staircase built for one household now serving three. Different problems, and we ask about both before pricing.

05

Can you store things between places?

Yes — wrapped, listed on an inventory and racked indoors, collected as part of the same move. North London chains run long and a lot of the older stock wants work before anyone moves in.

06

How do you work out a price?

Volume, access at both ends, how much packing you want done, and distance. In Finchley the access line is a real one — a third-floor conversion on a permit street is genuinely more work than a North Finchley semi at the same volume.

07

Does a survey cost anything?

No, and there is no obligation. For the interwar stock a video call usually does it; for period villas and mansion blocks we would rather see the staircase and the loading point ourselves.

08

What gets forgotten?

The loft, the cellar and the garden store. Finchley's period houses have storage in places modern houses do not, and all of it is slow to empty.

09

Do you move antiques and fine pieces?

Frequently on this stock. Veneer and inlay, marble tops, gilt, large mirrors and framed work get cases or crates rather than blankets, identified at survey and declared so cover is confirmed in writing before you book.

10

Is the A406 or A1000 a factor?

For timing rather than access. The North Circular and the Great North Road are busy at predictable hours, and a move planned without allowing for them starts badly. We choose the loading window rather than accept one.

11

Do you move pianos?

Uprights routinely, with the correct board and straps. Grands we assess first, and out of an upper-floor conversion with a turned stair we would rather bring in a piano specialist.

12

Are my things insured?

Goods in transit and storage cover are in place, with the usual conditions around owner-packed cartons and items of unusual value. Declare anything genuinely valuable at survey and we will confirm in writing what applies.

13

Do you pack, or is that on me?

Either, or a split. The usual arrangement is that you do the books, clothes and the loft and we do the kitchen, the glass, the pictures and anything old.

14

What if my completion slips?

The load stays on the vehicle or goes into store overnight rather than onto a pavement. We tell you plainly what that means for the booking rather than sending a surprise invoice.

15

Do you cover Edgware, Muswell Hill or Golders Green?

The edges only. Edgware has its own specialist on our network and we do not poach it; Muswell Hill and Golders Green sit on our boundary and we work up to it. For anything properly inside those we will point you at the right firm.

16

What about London-wide moves?

Our crews know N2, N3 and N12. For a genuinely London-wide move our pan-London sister sites cover the whole city and are the better fit, and we will say so rather than take a booking we are not best placed for.

17

Do you do office moves?

Small commercial — offices and practices around Ballards Lane and the High Road, studios and small units. Out of hours usually makes most sense.

18

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as you have a date, even provisional. Fridays and month-ends go first, and anything needing a bay suspension or a lift booking wants more notice than the move itself.

19

Who handles the customs paperwork on a European move?

We do, built from the survey inventory. Since the UK left the EU a household move needs a proper packing list and the destination country's transfer-of-residence process, and each of the four differs.

Still not answered?

Put it in the notes on the quote form. Services covers what we do, coverage covers where, and European removals covers moves that leave the country.

Moving in Finchley?

Send both addresses and a sense of what is coming. We survey — at the property or by video — then put a clear quote in writing, with what is included and what would change it.
